Our Story

Our journey began with a deep-rooted passion for the vibrant tapestry of Burmese flavors. Originating from Burma ourselves, we embarked on a quest to bring the tastes of our homeland to Amsterdam's bustling food scene. Inspired by the bustling streets of Yangon and the warmth of Burmese hospitality, we set out to create a dining experience that captures the essence of Myanmar's culinary heritage.

A Personal Journey

မင်္ဂလာပါ (Mingalabar) - Hoi!

Let me take you on a little journey, all the way from a small city in Burma to Singapore and then to the vibrant canals of Amsterdam. Imagine this: a dreamer, deeply rooted in Burmese culture, wandering the lively lanes of San Francisco for studies in the USA as part of my life chapter. There, amidst the hustle and bustle, I spotted something magical – folks lining up eagerly for a taste of home. It hit me then: Burmese food isn't just for us; it's a delicious secret waiting to be shared with the world.

Back home in Burma, civil wars and unrest have displaced many, preventing those who live abroad from returning. For us, the vibrant tea shops bustling with chatter and warmth, serve as cherished reminders of our roots, keeping the flavors of Burma alive in our hearts and minds.

The memories of those YouTube vids, each one a sweet reminder of Burma's warmth and hospitality, made me long for the sights and sounds of home. But fate had other plans, leading me to the Netherlands, where I found a surprising gap in the food scene – no Burmese joints! While our flavors lit up tables in Germany, Belgium, and the UK, they were missing here. And that's how Yangon Delight was born.

Now, here's the funny bit – whenever I mentioned Myanmar (Burma) to the locals, puzzled looks would often ensue, most of the time. “Oh it’s near Thailand'! I’d say, prompting a moment of clarity. The joys and struggles of introducing our flavors to the world.

So, my dear friends, Yangon Delight isn't just about serving tasty dishes; it's about building bridges, sparking conversations, and sharing a slice of our homeland with each of you. Welcome to our little corner of Burma – let's eat, laugh, and make some delicious memories together.
