Community & Impact
At Yangon Delight, my mission extends beyond the kitchen. I aim to build a restaurant that is both socially responsible and authentic. For me, food is more than just a meal. Through my cuisine, I offer more than a unique taste of Myanmar. I provide a space where everyone feels welcome, open, and connected to one another, regardless of their background.
In a fast-changing world, I believe that sitting at the same table is the first step toward understanding and a stronger community. At Yangon Delight, I celebrate the beauty of life — the vibrant colours, the music, and the joy of shared moments while never losing sight of our responsibility to one another.
Strengthening Our Local Neighbourhood
Verhalen aan Tafel
In a world that can sometimes feel divided, we believe the dining table is one of the most powerful places to build connection. Verhalen aan Tafel (Stories at the Table) was created together with Quincy Hofsink, whom I met during my dissertation research, with a simple aim: to bring people from different backgrounds together and gently push back against polarisation.
Every last Wednesday of the month, we invite people who do not know each other to sit at one table and share a Burmese dinner. What begins as a simple meal often turns into meaningful conversations, shared stories, and genuine human connections.
This initiative is also personal to me. The warmth and support from people in Amsterdam have played an important role in building Yangon Delight, and this is my way of giving something back to the community.
By focusing on what we have in common, we create a space where differences are not barriers, but part of the conversation, and where strangers can become friends.
We also believe that everyone should have access to this experience. Stadspas holders are welcome to join for €1, while other guests pay a non-profit rate of €19 for a three-course dinner. This allows us to keep the experience open and inclusive, regardless of financial situation.
For us, this is not just an event. It is a small but meaningful way to build a more connected and understanding community in Amsterdam.
Global Roots: Supporting Myanmar
As someone originally from Myanmar, I place a high value on staying connected to my home country. While building a life and business in Amsterdam, I feel a strong responsibility to give back to communities back home.
Last year, Yangon Delight organised a fundraising event and donated 30% of ticket sales to Myanmar. In addition, I have placed a donation box in the restaurant, where contributions from guests are collected and directed to independent organisations in Myanmar, such as Clean Yangon, Sonnie Social Organisation, and the Netherlands-Myanmar Solidarity Platform. I am deeply grateful for the generosity of our guests.
These efforts may be small, but they reflect an ongoing commitment to support people and communities in need. Yangon Delight carries not only the flavours of Myanmar, but also my continued connection to its people.

Environmental Direction
Alongside my social initiatives, I am also working to better understand the environmental impact of my menu. I am currently undertaking a GHG Scope 3 Emissions certification to build the knowledge and tools needed to measure the footprint of my dishes across the supply chain.
This is an ongoing process of learning and development, and an important part of my long-term commitment to building a responsible and transparent restaurant.
