Yangon Delight is praised for its “authentic and soulful cuisine” and warm, welcoming atmosphere — becoming one of the few immigrant-run restaurants to receive national culinary recognition.

Interviewed by NRC
Following the devastating Myanmar earthquake in March, Thandar was interviewed by NRC as a Burmese voice in the Netherlands — offering emotional insight, cultural context, and connection to the people of Myanmar.

Yangon Delight Celebrates 1 Year

To mark one year since opening, Yangon Delight hosted a sold-out anniversary event — bringing together customers, friends, and supporters for a night of food, music, and meaning.

As part of the celebration, 30% of ticket sales were donated to support communities in Myanmar, reflecting our ongoing commitment to giving back and staying connected to our roots.

In just 12 months, Yangon Delight became a recognised name in Dutch media, introduced Burmese cuisine to a wider audience, and built a loyal community in Amsterdam Oost.
This anniversary wasn’t just about business — it was about gratitude, resilience, and the power of sharing culture through food.

Yangon Delight Opens in Amsterdam Oost
The idea for Yangon Delight didn’t come from a long-held dream — it came from a moment. One evening, while out with a friend at a nearby bar, Thandar noticed a "For Rent" sign next door — one she had seen many times before. She remembered a trip to San Francisco with her mother, where people were queuing outside a Burmese restaurant. That image stuck with her. In that moment, it clicked: there was no Burmese restaurant in the Netherlands.
Without prior kitchen or hospitality experience, she decided to give it a try — not out of fantasy, but from instinct and boldness.
In May 2024, Yangon Delight opened as the first and only Burmese restaurant in the country.
